Life Back In the Dark Ages!

      I so wish I could start this blog with Once Upon A Time but unfortunately this blog is not a fairy tale but in fact is and regrettably reality. Currently right now I am sitting in the upstairs bathroom on the floor typing this blog. As it is that we are currently without power. My father has so generously hooked up our generator and bestowed the upstairs bathroom with power. While the rest of the 2nd and 3rd floor go with out power. No complaints here!! I just wish I was cozy in my bed instead of on a cold bathroom floor. You might be wondering as to why I am here and not in my bed. Well let me enlighten you. It all began on a Saturday afternoon October 29 2011. *Queue the happy fairy tale instrumental music with birds chirping happily in the back ground*

     The clock had just struck noon and the rain had already began to fall. Around one thirty in the afternoon I looked out the window as I sat at my kitchen table and noticed that white wets little flakes had begun to fall from the sky. This sight was indeed strange to my eyes. For there could possibly be no snow in October. Just the thought was absurd. I thought that I was dreaming. For this surely could not be reality. *Queue the loud rock n’ roll music beginning with a loud electric guitar* But guess what it was SNOWING!!!! In OCTOBER in CONNECTICUT. Please tell me I’m dreaming was indeed my first thought then the scene in Hook when the old guy opens the door yells “It’s snowing” then slams the door in Robin Williams face came into mind.  This last thought did make me a little more tolerable that it was snowing but that was so about to change.

     So it kept snowing and snowing and snowing. It snowed I believe all the wall till like the next early morning. So more than a good 12 hours. And on top of it around 6:30 that first night our power went out!! So we have now been without power (as of when I am typing this Nov. 4th 2011 1:42 a.m.) 5 days!!!!. And for all of you who know me know I LOVE to straighten my hair!!! Yup no flat hair. Also when we lost power the next day I was going to do laundry as is Sunday is my laundry day…. NOPE!! Mother Nature had a different plan. Today my mom and I finally went to a laundry mat. Everything has and still is shut down because my town (no joke this is fact) 100% lost power!!! Most of Connecticut lost power too. So today we finally got to clean my clothes. Oh Happy Day!!!!

     We are slowly getting power back. It has taken a lot longer to get our power back and estimates are that most of the state will have power back by Sunday. I say BULL!!!! Some of you may remember that like 2-3 months ago we also were hit with a hurricane. Well that also took out power. And out of state workers came to help. But CL&P haven’t paid them back till just a few days ago so it took Connecticut longer to get out of state workers here to help. Stupid CL&P. This is so ridiculous. I miss my power!!!! You really don’t know what you got till it is gone. But in case you are wondering we are all fine. But from this storm there have been a few deaths last time I checked there was 7. Most were from people having their generators too close to their house or in their house and died from Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Very said. I just am glad and feel really blessed that my family and friends have been kept safe. And am thankful for the workers who are trying to get our power back. But hurry it up will ya. hahaha

     Well anyway so back to what is going on in the Sexton household. We are currently (on 2nd and 3rd floor) living in the dark ages. And by that I mean we are totally rocking the candles. Not going to lie I had no problem with it the first 3 days but now!!!! UGH!!!! I can not stand it anymore. The candles are not bright enough. They stink and with my asthma it sucks cause I am not able to breathe!!! Well you get the picture. All I have to say is that I am so thankful that I was not born in the dark ages haha. I will say this I have never seen so many stars in Connecticut. It was very lovely. But now that the power is back on in most parts of my town the sky looks funny. It’s like living on a farm and looking towards the city and you can see a glow in the sky that is not natural. Earlier I looked out my window and that is what I saw. The sky where there was power was the night sky but with a dark orange tint to it. I wish I got a picture of it cause it was kind of sad. All the light pollution pollutes nature and it’s beauty. But I’m not complaining here…. cause I just can not wait for my power to be back on haha. But it was one of the moments where you take a step back and just realize all that you have and all that you should be grateful for!

     Well it is like almost 2 a.m here and I am exhausted!!!! After spending a few hours at a crowded laundry mat is enough to put anyone in the madhouse! haha. So I am off to nappy poo land. Hurray Hurray haha. So till next time love you all. And be safe!!! xoxo

 

November 5 2011… we got power back yesterday evening !!! HURRAY!!!! HURRAY!!!

Sexy Irish Men…. need I say more?

          Hey everyone!!! Okay so I just had to blog about this! So on September 30th my mother and I… well we sort of went to a little concert. You know no big deal… it was just a little one at the Warner Theatre in Torrington. Oh yeah did I mention that we were seeing CELTIC THUNDER!!! So for all of you who really know me you know that I can die happy now haha. Well the concert started at 8pm but of course we got there at like 6:30 or sometime around there…. give or take about 5 minutes haha. So anyway we had just parked in the back of the building… right next to the buses . Well I was getting out of the car and I look over to the buses and guess who I see walking towards them!! I was like mom “ I just saw Keith and Emmett walk towards the buses!” She was like no way. So I not really even thinking just walked right up to the buses and was like “Keith”.

    Next thing I know is that Keith Harkin (for those of you who do not know… he is my favorite ). Well he is walking right to me… actually he ran over. Anyways… that is when I just completely blacked out. I don’t really remember much of what I was saying except for a few things. But I was just like “Hi Keith (Ps I was shaking like a earthquake I was so nervous!!!) How are you?” Okay interjection real quick most of you know I am an art major and I LOVE to paint! So I got bored one night before the concert and decided to paint a picture. I was having little inspiration so I was like “What the heck I’m going to paint Keith a picture”. So I painted and ocean scene with two palm tress and two surf boards. I thought it looked somewhat okay I’ll be honest it was not my best painting haha. Anyways so I gave it to Keith and he smiled and said thank you *insert my giggles right now as I remember it haha*. So he asked if I wanted him to sign anything and I was like yes!!! So I handed him my Celtic Thunder Sheet Music Song Book. Yeah he signed it I’m not going to say what cause a few of you will just tease me for it haha. So while I was getting my permanent marker out of my purse… which felt like Mary Poppins bag at the time. I asked him how the tour was going and he said (mind you in his brilliantly Irish accent *melts*) “it’s going good… it’s all good in the hood”. See now here is my problem I can not remember if I said this out loud or thought it but I chuckled to my self and then said “haha the hood.” *face palm!!!* I really hope I did not say that out loud haha.

     So anyways then I got my picture with him then a hug *sigh giggle*. My mom took the picture. Then when we were saying tootles I looked behind him and there was George!! I did not get to meet any of the other members of Celtic Thunder but that’s okay cause I met Keith haha. So after that my mom and I went to the front of the building to wait for the doors to open and there we meet two of the guys who travel with them. One was one of the truck drivers the other the guy who sold the merchandise. Yeah they were awesome. Can I just say if you want to win my heart talk in an Irish accent okay haha. So we were there waiting for a while more people started to come and wait also. While we were waiting I met a girl who was passing out flyers for Paul Byrom’s concert next month. (He was a former member of Celtic Thunder but left to pursue his own career). Anyways so we started talking and then next thing I know I’m helping pass out flyers… hey it is for a good cause.. stop judging haha.

 So yeah that was fun… hopefully a lot of people will buy tickets. *PUBLIC ANOUNCEMENT* All those who are in the tri state area… Paul Bryom is having a concert at the Ridgefield playhouse on Nov 17 at 8pm tickets are 35$ you should come!!!! Okay please come it might be canceled if not enough tickets are sold so COME!!!!…. Okay I’m off my soap box now haha. So we finally make it into the theatre and we are waiting at the doors to the actual theatre and in front of us is a line of ushers keeping us from going a farther and a staircase. So while we are waiting guess who comes down the stair case Neil Byrne and Ryan Kelly. (members of the group). I go to my mom and I’m like “Look it’s Neil”. Okay the next thing that happened was so funny. I did not know that my mom’s voice could get that high. She yells/squeals “NEIL” (PS he is her favorite if she had to pick one haha). And then shouts Ryan’s name. He looks up and waves to her. I was scared she was going to pass out haha.

       So we finally make it into the actual theatre and after a little wait the show starts and OMG!!!!!. Yeah it is amazing. 100 times better than the dvd’s. Trust me! haha. The newest member Daniel who is 13 years old is sooo sticking cute!! He sang “To where you are and Somewhere over the rainbow” and your heart just can’t help but melt haha. Later in the show he and Keith sang the song “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” and it was soo cute. He was singing it to Keith and Keith was supposed to act “annoyed” kind of like how a little brother always wants to be with the older brother and be just like him. It was so funny Keith would do one thing and Danny would do the same. I loved it! The songs they sang though were wonderful! Some old ones and a lot of new ones. Keith sang two of his original songs “All Day Long and September Sessions”… *melted like butter*  Then Ryan came out and sang “Friend’s In Low Places” and the rest of the lads came out and sang with him… it was soo awesome. All the lads though were amazing and when they sang as a group it was epic! They all sang the song “The Galway Girl” and they all were playing different instruments Keith his guitar of course… Emmett played the violin.. Danny the box thingy…George the flute/pipe…Neil a little guitar…and I cannot remember what Ryan was playing haha.  But they put on an excellent show. I suggest for those of you who have never seen them to go!!!! If they have a show in your area you should defiantly go. I do suggest buying your tickets through the venue and not PBS! Buying the tickets through the venue are a lot cheaper!. Well anyway they ended with Ireland’s Call and they of course were all in their kilts and well it was just awesome!!! I can honestly say that was one of  the best nights of my life!! So yeah that is my Celtic Thunder adventure…another thing checked off of the bucket list. haha. Hollywood is getting dumb and DUMBER!!!!!!

*Warning* This is another one of my rantings on how ridiculous Hollywood has become. If you can deal with my opinion then enjoy if not … well … oh well haha.

So Hollywood is no longer capable of coming up with an original idea. At first it started off small. With movies like King Kong; A-Team; Arthur; Clash of the Titans; and Karate Kid. Now I really didn’t have a problem with these movies cause except for King Kong and karate Kid… these movies are not that big or well known of these past few generations. Which is understandable as to why they would want to remake them. But it is okay cause they well… they are not classics.

But now Hollywood is taking things further with the remakes of Batman. Now before you get your panties in a bunch I’m not going to tear apart of Batman cause those of you who know me well know that I love the new Batman movies... and in the words of a dear friend “Christian Bale needs to do more kissing movies” .. so here’s to hoping he kisses Catwoman in the next one. But now they are re-making Spiderman… well in reality I’m also excited for this one. Only because I am not a fan of Toby Maguire so I am hoping that it will be better. Also they recently have remade the Smurfs and Footloose! Now I haven’t seen smurfs yet but I want to. So can’t really say anything about that. And Footloose well… I will probably see but how can you remake that. The problem with remaking that movie and with the main movie I am really upset about (you will know soon) is all they are going to do is make it more dirty skanky and slutier. You all know it is true. That is all Hollywood is now. Besides have you seen a trailer for Footloose… Juilanne Hough she is an amazing dance but no one is going to be paying attention cause everyone is going to be wondering if those are real jeans or just a pair of undies made to look like jeans.

Now if you have not heard then I should smack you. (not really I’m not that mean) But Lionsgate is going to be remaking Dirty Dancing. WHAT ARE THEY DOING!!!! WHAT DRUGS ARE THEY ON!!!! It is like remaking Titanic or Casablanca!!!! YOU JUST DON’T DO THAT!!!!!!! Seriously if I ever meet the moron that decided to remake it I’m going to slap them. I should cut out their tongue shoot him/her then shoot their tongue (in case you don’t know what that is from .. go watch Pirates 3). But seriously how can you remake that movie. Deciding to remake that movie is pretty much slapping Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze in the face. And it is an insult to Patrick Swayze’s memory. There is no man on earth who could ever step in his shoes especially in Dirty Dancing.

It’s bad enough that Dirty Dancing 2 was not that great… in my opinon it would have been better if they had Enrique Iglesias as the main guy instead of Diego Luna… who looks like a 12 year old boy! But anyways why on earth or they remaking Dirty Dancing!! It is not going to be the same. The elements that make Dirty Dancing such a good movie is one the music; two the style of dancing that was used then. You all know that the dancing that is going to be in this one is going to be .. pretty much people having sex on the dance floor. At least in the original Dirty Dancing there still was dancing. Nowadays the filmmakers are going to have to modernize it to get a younger group of audience members. And the way to do that is do their style of dancing…if they want to call that dancing. Okay continuing on number 3 the dorky nephew of Kellerman. No one can be as moronic as him! Number four the actors. How can you replace Jerry Orbach … Jennifer Grey!!! The way the actors followed together soo well!!! Number five HOW CAN YOU REPLACE PATRICK SWAYZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need I say anymore about this! Seriously come on!!!! There is no man on earth that could ever step in Patrick Swayze’s shoes… no pun intended!! I really want to smack the person who decided this. Also the chemistry between Jennifer and Patrick in the movie is amazing!!! You just cannot replace them or the cast. I mean come on we all know that Baby's sister when she is singing in the rehearsal scene is so funny!!! Who else can do that??

4th of July!!!!!!

Hey everyone! I hope you all had an amazing Fourth of July. I know I did haha. This whole weekend was fantastic. Friday we had our apartment game night like always. It was super fun. We played the “what if” game which is always tons of fun. And we also played “Werewolves of Millershollow” that has to be like my favorite game. I feel bad though for everyone cause while I was trying to explain it everyone was talking and I was getting so frustrated. I know some people defiantly noticed my frustration. So for everyone on Friday sorry! Ya’ll just need to stop talking when I’m trying to explain a game hahaha. Anyway continuing on Saturday was super fun. A friend of mine invited my roommates and I to her grandma’s house for a BBQ/Picnic. It was sooo much fun. We roasted hot dogs over a fire then played some pool. Then we went to Beaver Dick. Okay the Snake River is part of Beaver Dick and with all the melting snow etc the river was flooded. So we all just got on a dock and were jumping in the water and swimming soo much fun. Then on Sunday church was amazing as always haha.

Now 4^Th of July!!!! So our bishop had our ward over his house on Monday for the 4^th. It was sooo fun. One of the best 4^th of July’s ever!!! So when we got there we started off with tug of war but water version. Nate my fhe bro was in control of the water house while we all were fighting to pull the other team over the line. It was fun my side totally kicked butt. Next was human battleship. I cannot even begin to explain how much fun that was. There was a huge tarp between the two teams like in the game battleship. And we would lie down and position ourselves while the other team would through water nerf balls at us. And we would go back and forth it was a blast!

Next was the dunk tank!!!! And yup I got dunked!!!! Okay just fyi being in the dunk tank is very scary!!!! The suspense is hmm what’s a good word…. Awesome …scary …completely terrifying haha. Ya get the jest. Then it was on to the slip in slide. They had made this huge one with tarps and water hoses. It was a lot of fun. After that some of us went down to the canal to go canoeing. Well there were a lot of us and not enough canoes so we ended up getting this raft dingy thing. It was fun! But first there was this bridge. And as many of you know I have been really wanting to go bridge jumping. And well there was a bridge over the canal. The water was about 5 feet deep so we had to like bend our knees so we would like sit on the bottom when we jumped. But before that Stephanie and Caroline bless their souls had to convince and persuade me to jump. Okay I’ll admit it. I was TERIFFIED!!! The last time I jumped off a bridge it was in a river and the water was deep. But this was five feet!!! So I finally jumped and bent my knees the wrong way so yup you guessed it I hurt myself. Have some scratches on my foot and a nice little chunk of skin missing. So yeah me and Steph jumped in. It was fun minus my missing skin haha. So we get in the raft thingy and we are paddling then we (Steph and myself) decide to swim. So we jump out of the raft and we swim to where we get off at Brother Barnes house (one of the councilors in the bishopric). Can I just say how good it felt to swim. Not just play in the water and swim a little but the actually swim! It was amazing. But now I’m sooooo sore hahaa. I haven’t used those muscles like in forever ahha. Anyways so when we get out they have this hayride trailer hooked up to a truck waiting for us to bring us back to bishops’ house. That was fun!! Ya know riding down the street on this hayride trailer waving as the cars go by I felt like I was in a parade haha.

After that it was dinner time. Oh man home cooked food was sooo amazing. We had so much good food!! Like it was amazing. The perfect picnic food!!! I’m going to stop here cause just thinking about it makes me hungry and my mouth water hahaha. After dinner we had a little dance party some of us did the thriller. Yup yours truly participated in that haha. And me and Stephanie did karaoke when they brought that out. We totally kicked major butt singing “wannabe” by the Spice Girls haha. Oh so our bishop and his wife have two horses and they are beautiful!! They are both black with white spots on their head. Yup I was in heaven. One was pretty nice and allowed us to pet and feed it while the other was more distant haha.

Next were the fireworks!!! We went to Manean. Which was so so so much fun. It made me reminisce about when I was little and my family would visit my grandma in Menean when she used to live there. It was awesome the fireworks were great!!

So yeah that pretty much was my fourth of July. It was just an absolute blast!!! Now it is back to school! UGHHHHH. But only three weeks left then I will be in Connecticut for seven weeks! Can you say BEACH!!!! Oh I’m sooo excited!!!. Well till next time be safe be happy. Love you all!! xoxo
